Rose M. Vanis

Rose M. Vanis, of Bellwood, peacefully passed away on September 8, 2026, at Butler County Health.

Visitation will be Monday, September 14th from 5-7 pm followed by a 7pm Rosary Service all held at Presentation Parish (Marietta). Visitation will continue on Tuesday, September 15th from 9-10 with the Funeral Mass starting at 10am. Burial will take place at St. Peter & Mary Catholic Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Aquinas Catholic Schools or Family Wishes.

Rose Shavlik Vanis was born in Ewing Nebraska to Louis Shavlik and Ludmilla Blatny on August 11, 1927. The family moved to Linwood when Rose was three years old. Here she grew up, attended school, graduated from Linwood high school. The Summer after graduation, she attended Midland College to obtain her teaching permit. She taught at Garfield school district number three until she married George Vanis on May 25, 1948. They had five children. Larry, Sue, Bernie, Betty and Patty. In 1955 they moved to Rising City area and later to Surprise. After retirement, they moved to the River House near Octavia. From there, she moved to the Sunshine Court where she led a very active life.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband: George; sons: Larry, and Bernie; brother: Stan; grandson: Josh, and son-in-law: Lenny.

She survived by daughters: Sue, Betty(Gary), and Patty(Todd); daughters-in-law: Melvene, and Nancy: grandchildren: Jenni Vanis, Jason(Katie) Vanis, Craig(Kristen) Vanis, Jessica(Jeff) Brau, Jason(Erin) Vidlak, Jill(Brian) Hill, Mary Jo(Josh) Bean, Vanessa(James) Engel, Alexandra Gill, Sam(Taylor) Gill, Heidi(Mike) McMillan, Erica Gibson, Chad(Shauna) Fleck: 20 great-grandchildren brother: Milo Shavlik and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rose did keep busy making kolaches, making mints, crocheting hats, and sewing quilts. She donated 27 gallons of blood and worked at Blue Valley for several years.

Rose will be missed by family and friends. Her love of flowers and birds kept her interest until her final days.
