Roger L, Kotil, 77, of David City died Friday, May 29, 2015 at UNMC-Clarkson in Omaha.

Roger L, Kotil was born on May 11, 1938 to John and Irma(Gerner)Kotil at Crete, Nebraska. He attended Milford High School, where he excelled and lettered in football, basketball,and track, especially the high jump. and graduated in 1957. He attended Barber School in Omaha for 14 months and then enlisted in the Nebraska National Guard in 1959. He served two terms in the Guard was qualified and decorated as a rifle marksman.

Roger married Shirleen Wakeley on November 23, 1961 at Bloomfield, Nebraska.

After his discharge from the National Guard, Roger was a barber for 32 years serving Morrill and David City, Nebraska. He sold his shop, and went to work at Tenneco, Inc. in Seward where he worked for 12 years.
He and his wife also worked as a janitorial team for St. Luke's United Methodist Church during this time. After he retired from Tenneco, he went to work as a Zoning Administrator for the City of David City, retiring from there in 2014.

Always one to keep busy, Roger also coached Breakers Basketball, kids baseball, T-ball thru Midgets, held the down markers at many high school football games, coached softball, helped run local sporting events and was an avid golfer. He also served on the David City Cemetery Board for many years as well as maintained the cemetery property. He enjoyed spending time with family and attending sporting events, especially if his children or grandchildren were involved. He like to hunt and also spend time on his son's acreage, helping him build, repair or tear down. Roger and Shirleen like to travel and spent several winters down in Texas.

Roger is survived by his wife, Shirleen, son: Dr. Darin(Ashley)Kotil of Bennington, Ne, daughter: Debra Schaf of Casper, WY, 8 grandchildren: Randy Swartz, Aevari, Koen, and Kale Kotil, Heather, Zech, Jamie and Ciso Schaf, two great-grandchildren: Max Swartz and Stephani Schaf and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter: Courtney Worley, three brothers: Elmer, "Curly" and Dallis Kotil.
