Patricia Joy Ayers, née Redinbaugh, known affectionately as Pat, passed away on July 20, 2024, in David City, NE, at the age of 92. Born on January 12, 1932, in Wood River, NE, she carried the warmth of her upbringing throughout her life. On June 24, 1950, she married Niles Fred Ayers at St. Paul's in Plainview. In this union, the couple had four children: Mary, Nancy, Niles, and Jean.
Pat devoted her career to various secretarial roles, including Ayers Electric, the Schuyler Sun, and Schuyler Memorial Hospital. Her professional dedication was matched by her commitment to her faith; she was a long-standing member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Schuyler, NE. There, she contributed by organizing and facilitating funeral dinners for many years, a service that brought comfort to numerous families during their times of loss.
Family was the cornerstone of Pat's life. She is survived by her siblings Keith Redinbaugh (Harlene) and Lynn Redinbaugh; sister-in-law Donna Redinbaugh; children Mary (Allan) Steinberger , Nancy Lammers, and Niles (Star) Ayers; grandchildren Sara Ockander, Katie (Bob Coufal) Kadavy, Susannah (John) Dunn, Melinda (Nick) Bilava, Abigail (Matthew) Warren, Summer (Doug) Lancaster, Travis (Lori) Ayers, Makenzie (Jared) Wilfahrt, Molly (Donny) McVay, and Aaron McVay; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred Ayers in 2009; daughter Jean McVay; parents Bruce and Ellen Redinbaugh; in-laws Fred and Leola Ayers; brother Larry Redinbaugh; son-in-law David Lammers; and great-granddaughter Jana Ayers.
A graduate of Plainview High School in 1949, Pat's life was a testament to her enduring kindness and her joyous spirit. She was often praised for her culinary skills, particularly her ability to cook for a crowd and the delectable baked goods she kept ready for sharing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 25, at 10:30 at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Svoboda Moravec Johnson Mortuary in Schuyler. Visitation will resume on Thursday from 9:30 until 10 a.m. at the church with a parish rosary recited at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with lunch following at the St. Augustine’s Social Hall. Svoboda Moravec Johnson Mortuary in Schuyler, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Pat's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, as a beacon of love and kindness in her community.
