Monica Rae (Sorrick) Gerrard passed away peacefully on October 12, 2023 at the Stanton Health Center in Stanton, Nebraska.
Memorials can be directed to Howells Community Catholic School (HCCS).
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 27 at 11 a.m. at Svoboda Funeral Home, 905 A St. Schuyler. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Schuyler, Nebraska. Svoboda Funeral Home is handling arrangements for Monica’s family.
Monica was born on January, 11, 1939 to Ralph and Catherine (McCready) Sorrick on the family farm outside of Howells. Monica was the second oldest of four children. She married Kenneth Gerrard and were blessed with four daughters. The couple later divorced.
Monica raised her daughters on the family farm where she grew up. She taught school during the school year and attended college classes in the summer, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in education. She taught at various country schools in the Stanton, Colfax, and Dodge County areas. After her daughters were older, Monica moved her family into Stanton, Nebraska and she took a job at Goodyear Tire Plant in Norfolk- where she worked until her retirement.
Monica is preceded in death by her parents and her oldest sister Kathleen (Francis) Wiese. Surviving her are her daughters: Therese (Michael) Bauer, Yvonne Gerrard, Anne Gerrard, and Reginé Gerrard Farr; brother Calvin (Jane) Sorrick, sister Mary Faye Hiller, and brother-in-law Thomas Hiller; grandchildren: Shelley (Brad) Ball, Ryne (Jessica) Stevenson, Jesse Prusa, Joshua Prusa, Gabriel Farr, Cari Flood, and Jacob Judt, as well as five great-grandchildren.
