Mary K. Steffen

Mary K. Steffen, 76, of Clarkson, formerly of Rising City, died Monday, December 4, 2023, at Clarkson Community Care Center.

A funeral service will be held Friday, December 8, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Rising City. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 7, from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Church. Burial will be at Circle Mound Cemetery in Rising City. Lunch to follow in the Church basement.

IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, PLANTS, STATUES: Memorials are suggested to the Rising City Fire Department or First Lutheran Church of Rising City. In lieu of Thank You cards, a donation will be made in Mary's name.

Mary Katherine Steffen was born September 8, 1947 to Rita (Schneider) and Emil Gleich at Yankton, South Dakota. Mary grew up in Yankton, and graduated from Yankton High School in 1965. After school, she worked as a Nurses Aid at Sister James Care Center in Yankton. In 1969, she was united in marriage to Russel R. Steffen. Three children were born to this union.

Mary was a member of First Lutheran Church in Rising City. She served on the Church’s PCCW committee for several years. She also volunteered at the Relay for Life event, and at Blue Valley in David City. Mary enjoyed crocheting, doing word searches, and gardening.

Left to cherish her memory include her children: Pamela (Jay) Cech, Sandra Steffen, grandchildren: Emily Cech, Austin Leimer, Randel Giersdorf, and Cara Giersdorf, brothers: Ed, John, Jim, and Bob Gleich, sisters: Monica Haas, Judy Vankley, and Theresa Wells, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Russ in 2022, daughter, Sara in 2007, and her parents.
