Lumir Uher

Lumir R. Uher, 92 of Schuyler, died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Schuyler, Nebraska. He was born August 22, 1920 to Vaclav and Anna (Bazata) Uher in the Howells area and attended Colfax County District 32 grade school and Howells High School. Lumir farmed with his father and brothers on the family farm and in his teen years he enjoyed playing the drums in the Uher Band. On April 11, 1944 he married Blanche Kalisek at St. John's Catholic Church in Howells and raised five children on his family farm in the Tabor area until retiring in 1980 and moving to Schuyler, Nebraska. Mr. Uher was a member of the Catholic Workmen and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. Lumir enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota with friends, playing cards, bowling and traveling with his wife Blanche. Together they enjoyed polka music and dances. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Blanche, two sons: Gene (Brigitte) Uher of Sioux Falls, SD, and Paul (Jill) Uher of Hastings, NE; daughters Diane (Del) Truss of Palos Heights, IL, Carol (Terry) Welke of Lake Charles, LA; and Beverly (Tommy) Mann of Colleyville, TX; eleven grandchildren: Scott (Jen) Truss of Round Lake, IL, Craig Truss of Palos Heights, IL, Michelle Uher of Minneapolis, MN, Todd Uher of Olathe, KS, Brieanna (Jason) Durham of Manvel, TX, Dr. Brett Welke of New Orleans, LA, Tommy Mann of Colleyville, TX, Lt. Dustin (Lindsey) Mann of Grapevine, TX, Matthew Uher, Elizabeth (Scott) Swank and Jared Uher all of Hastings, NE; seven great grandchildren: Ben, Claire, Sydney, Grant, Reagan, Lily and Gemma; and three step great granddaughters: Emma, Laura and Caroline; brother: Ed Uher of Dodge, NE. Mr. Uher was preceded in death by his parents Vaclav and Anna Uher; brother Raymond Uher and sister Helen Marik.
