John Coufal

John Edward Coufal was born November 15, 1931 in Schuyler to John D. and Frances (Cipera) Coufal. He attended Dodge County rural school District 72 and graduated from North Bend High School in 1949. He farmed with his father until being inducted into the Navy December 7, 1955 was discharged August 20, 1957 and served in the Naval Reserve until December 5, 1961. While in the service he was stationed on the USS Stonecounty LST 1141. On April 4, 1964 John married Lois Cuda at the First Presbyterian Church and the made their home in the North Bend area on the farm John was raised on. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending farm sales, Square and Ballroom dancing. John died September 19, 2013 at Merrick Manor in Fremont. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery with Military Honors by McLeod Post #47 of the American Legion and Hespen-Mitchell Post 4836 of the V.F.W. John is survived by his wife, Lois of North Bend, three sons, Dennis (Pam) Coufal of Schuyler, Gary (Beth) Coufal of Denton and Roger Coufal of North Bend; 10 grandchildren, Andrew, Trevor, Rebecca (Derrick) Willcox, Anne, Emily, Faith, Danielle, Hazel, Oliver and Ilissa Coufal; sister-in-law, Betty Coufal of Fremont, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ed J. Coufal. Family suggest memorials to the North Bend Volunteer Fire Department, Myasthenia Gravis Research or Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund.
