Jerome Harvey Klenda was born on December 6, 1937 in Pilsen, Kansas to Harvey and Albina (Vinduska) Klenda. After high school, Jerome served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 until 1962. Upon his honorable discharge he completed his schooling to earn a bachelors degree in accounting. On May 29, 1965 he married Margaret Cottone at St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church in Omaha. Jerome worked for over 20 years for the Augustine Brother’s accounting firm in Shelby, and later worked as an accountant for the Visiting Nurses Assoc. in Omaha until his retirement.

Jerome was a strong-willed man, who loved his country, believed very strongly in his Catholic faith, and that you should put your family before all else. Jerome enjoyed the thrill of a nicely regimented schedule, and eventually gave way to the fact that his wife Margaret usually…didn’t. He cherished the fact that he was able to help coach his kids’ baseball and softball teams in Shelby and David City and help them learn about the game. Every summer Jerome loved tending to his garden, finding free time to go fishing and always looked forward to hunting trips. Jerome was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his children Kevin Klenda of Omaha, Cynthia (Juline Miller) of Omaha, Brian (Laurel) Klenda of Kimbalton, IA, Brenda (Greg) Eller of David City, Jerret (Matt) Klenda of Omaha, and Shawn (Amy) Klenda of Omaha; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; siblings: Wayne (Bonnie) Klenda, Karen (Dennis Sr.) Schmidt, Galen (Pam) Klenda, and Diane Klenda as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jerome is preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret in 2020, and sister Regina (Walt) Gamerl.
