After 30 years of battling cancer, Francis Julius Baumert passed away Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Clarkson Community Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, plants, and statues: the family suggests memorials be directed to: Curing Cancer with Clubs (donations will be accepted at Homestead Bank in Howells), or Howells Community Catholic Schools.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 30, at 10:30 a.m. at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Howells. Family greeting friends will be Friday from 5 until 7 p.m. with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. all at the church. Additional visitation time will be Saturday from 9:30 until 10:30 at the church. Burial will be at S.S. Peter and Paul Cemetery with military honors presented by the Howells Legion Post #155. Lunch will follow at the Howells Ballroom. Svoboda Moravec Johnson Mortuary is assisting Francis's family with arrangements.
Francis was born on March 28, 1945, to Leo and Olivia (Heimann). He attended St. Peter and Paul elementary school and graduated from Howells Public School in 1963. After graduation Francis worked various jobs before joining the United States Army in the Vietnam War Era 1966-68. When returning from the Army, he helped his dad farm while also working at the Howells Elevator.
On October 2, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sally McGimpsey. They made their home in Howells Nebraska for 53 years. He then worked at the elevator, delivered milk for Hillside Dairy and owned the Parkview Dairy Queen. He was the substitute driver for the rural carrier. He then worked for the CBK Construction Company. Then he started his own, Baumert Construction. He mainly built and worked on hog barns. In 1995 he became a full-time rural mail carrier. He enjoyed his customers, and many said they could set their clocks on his arrival time. In 2015 he retired from the Postal Service Rural Mail Carrier.
Francis was a lifetime member of St. Peter & Paul Church and sang in the choir for over 50 Years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5439 over 50 Years. He was very involved in the fish fry’s events. Also, a Grand Knight. Francis was a member of Post #155 American Legion and a past commander. He was proud to be a veteran and was always there to help with Legion projects. Francis enjoyed gardening. He would always share his bounty from the garden with others. He enjoyed showing others his flower garden, which he started with seeds and were always beautiful. He was a big fan of Nebraska football and volleyball.
After retirement. He enjoyed working in his shop and helping others with small construction jobs. He also enjoyed going to his children’s games, then his grandchildren’s sports and theatrical events. Francis and Sally loved to travel. They took many car trips exploring the US and Europe and took many cruises. Many memories were made of those travels.
Survivors include- Wife Sally, Daughters: Tracey (Jill) Wright of Rifle; CO, Angel (Bill) Gaspers of Lindsay, NE and their children Isabella and Trysten; Sonya (Randy) Jensen of Waverly, NE and their children Jaxon, Lea, Cooper. Son: Andrew Baumert of Rifle, CO and his children Samantha and Sarah, Brothers: Duane (Dorothy) Baumert of Vonore TN, Ken (Molly) Baumert of Emmaus PA, Sisters: Karen (Brock) Stoltenberg Bassett NE, Marilyn (Bob) LaPorta of Lincoln, NE, Sister-in-law: Betty Delvillar of Falls City, NE.
Preceded in death: Parents Leo and Olivia Baumert, Father-in-law and mother-in-law: Andrew and Dorothy McGimpsey, Brother-in-law Mike Delvillar.
