Elizabeth "Betty" Meysenburg

November 15, 1936 — December 25, 2025

Elizabeth "Betty" A. Meysenburg, 89, of David City, died Thursday, December 25th at St. Joseph Villa.

Visitation will be Friday, January 2nd from 5-7pm at Presentation Catholic Church(Marietta) in rural Bellwood with a Rosary Service starting at 7pm.  Visitation will continue on Saturday, January 3rd from 9-10am at Presentation Catholic Church with the Funeral Mass starting at 10am.  Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary and St. Peter Catholic Cemetery.  Lunch will be served after the burial at the David City Auditorium. 

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Andel was born November 15, 1936, in Schuyler, NE to Joseph and Anna(Sedlacek) Andel. She grew up on a farm near Bruno. She attended grade school at School District No. 19 and graduated from David City Public High School in May 1954. Betty attended Wayne State Teacher’s College in summer 1954 and started teaching in fall 1954. She taught in one room schoolhouses in Butler County for about five years.

She married Jerome E. Meysenburg on November 8, 1958. They resided on a farm near David City where she partnered with her husband in dairy farming which included milking cows and raising baby calves. After they retired from milking, she worked In the kitchen at David Place and St. Joseph Villa until her retirement. Betty enjoyed crocheting, gardening, cooking, canning and baking. Her eleven children especially enjoyed her kolaches, caramel rolls and homemade bread. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty often enjoyed a treat of a Runza with a strawberry shake.

She resided on the farm until October 2019 when she moved to St. Joseph Villa in David City. Her family appreciates the loving care provided by the staff at the Villa, especially Randy Vavra who transported her to and from her appointments.

She was a member of Presentation Catholic Church (Marietta) of rural Bellwood where she was a member of the Altar Society.

She is survived by 11 children: Ben(Penny) Meysenburg of Des Moines, IA, Carla(Bob) Casper of Elkhorn, NE, Dennis(Laura) Meysenburg of David City, NE, Kevin Meysenburg of Norfolk, NE, Linus(Pam) Meysenburg of David City, NE, Diane(Jeff) Sobczyk of Omaha, NE, Mary(Dave) Albrecht of Le Mars, IA, Jayne Meysenburg of Lincoln, NE, Galen(Tiffany) Meysenburg of Elkhorn, NE, Lisa(Jon) Hardy of Pattsmouth, NE and Aaron(Becky) Meysenburg of Lincoln, NE; 28 grandchildren: Abby and Holly Meysenburg, Ryan(Crystal), Mark(Morgan), Mike(Michaela) Casper, Courtney(James) Verhoeff, Andrew, Paul and Anna Meysenburg, Lydia, John, Esther and Frances Meysenburg, Alex, Harry and Jack Sobczyk, Ote, Kara, Hannah and Jaxson Albrecht, Norah, Isaak and Natalee Meysenburg, Krista and Brandon Hardy, Ella, Luke and Hazel Meysenburg; 11 great-grandchildren: Agnes, Avila, Cecilia, Felix and Theo Verhoeff, Ryder Casper, Matthias, Genevieve and Gemma Casper, Lila and Isaiah Casper; and numerous nephews and nieces. 

Betty is preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Anna Andel; her husband: Jerome in 2006; grandson: Samuel Sobczyk; brothers and spouses: William(Mary) Andel, Ernest(Arlene) Andel and Miles(Arlene) Andel.
