Doug Jones, 78, of David City, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025 at his home.
Memorials can be directed towards Masses or to the family for later designation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in David City. Family greeting friends will be held Thursday, from 9:30 until 10 a.m. with a parish rosary recited at 10 a.m., all at the church. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with lunch following. Moravec Johnson Mortuary is handling arrangements for Doug’s family.
Douglas Scott Jones was born on May 3, 1947 in Goldfield, Iowa to Sylvus and Ruth (Warner) Jones. Doug graduated from Goldfield High School in the class of 1965 and went on to complete accounting courses at CE School of Commerce in Omaha. Doug served in the U.S. Army from September of 1967 until his honorable discharge in August of 1969. While serving in the Army he married Kathryn Woita on March 16, 1968.
On return to civilian life, Doug worked in accounting for Wilson Packing Company and Goodwill Industries in Omaha. He also earned degrees in Psychology and History, graduating with honors from Bellevue College.
In 1977, following graduation, the family moved to Houston where Doug worked for National Marine (bunkering barges) and for States Shipping Company as a shipping agent. He later attended Tomball Community College pursuing computer-related programs and enjoyed building computers for family and friends.
After retirement, the Jones’ returned to Nebraska to Kathy's home town of David City.
Doug enjoyed being with family, 50’s, 60's, 70's, and early 2000’s pop music, building computers, Dodgers baseball, Patriots football and trading options in the stock market.
Doug is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughter Jennifer Webb, her husband Jeremy and their daughter Violet; son Sean and grandson/son Isaiah and Isaiah's wife Marissa and children Emberly and Owen; daughter Shyler Jones; brother Mike Jones and sister Larraine Trotter of Clarion and Goldfield, Iowa; sister Roberta Grizzaffi of Dallas, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents Sylvus and Ruth Jones, brothers-in-law Pat Grizzaffi and Jim Woita, and sister-in-law Susan Woita.
