Dorothy Laird

Dorothy E. Laird, 97, formerly of Rising City, passed away on October 24, 2013 at David Place in David City.
Funeral Service will be Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in Rising City with Pastor Jack McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery in Surprise. Visitation will be Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 4-6 pm at Chermok Funeral Home in David City and will resume one hour before the service on Sunday.

Dorothy Ellen Williamsen was born November 1, 1915 to Louis and Ellen Marie (Sorensen) Williamsen at Central City, Nebraska and was the youngest of ten children. She attended school in Bradshaw, Nebraska and graduated from the eighth grade. Dorothy married Marvin Laird on May 5, 1934 and two sons were born to this union. They farmed in the Grand Island and Surprise areas and retired to live in Rising City. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, embroidering, camping, fishing, and her family. She especially enjoyed entertaining with dinners for family and friends.
Dorothy was a member of extension clubs and a former member of the Surprise United Methodist Church. Her husband passed away December 15, 1987. She moved to David Place Nursing Home in 2010.
She is survived by her sons and daughter's-in-law: Allen (Donna) Laird of Rising City and Donald (Doris) Laird of Snyder; grandchildren: Roxanne (Brent) Stutzman, Shelly (Scott) Tolle, Greg (Diana) Laird and Julie (Kevin) Glaubius; great-grandchildren: Eric (Kelli) Whitney, Ashley Stutzman, Haley Stutzman, Kiley Stutzman, Sydney Tolle (Alex Bristol), Brady Tolle, Drew Laird, Morgan Laird, Garret Glaubius, Carissa Glaubius and Hayden Glaubius; great-great-grandson; Broden Myles Whitney, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers: Christopher, James, Elmer, and Edward who died in infancy; five sisters: Anna Hilman, Kathrine Rhoads, Minnie Richards, Bertha Paneitz, and Viola Neujahr Sack.
