Dorothy Gillespie

Dorothy Gillespie, 102, of David City passed away September 9, 2025 at the Butler County Health Care Center. 

Visitation will be Sunday, September 14th from 3-5pm with a 5pm Rosary Service at Sacred Heath Catholic Church in Shelby, NE.  Viewing will continue from 9-10am Monday, September 15th with the funeral Mass to follow at 10am.  Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Shelby with the lunch to follow at the American Legion Hall.  Memorials can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to Aquinas Catholic High School. 

Dorothy was born May 14, 1923 in Shelby, Nebraska to Frank and Anna(Thelen) Fozzard.  She graduated from Shelby High School in 1941.  On August 3, 1953 she was united in marriage to Robert Gillespie at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby.  6 kids were born to this union. 

Dorothy enjoyed golfing, puzzles, reading, cross-stitch and playing cards.  She was in card clubs with her neighbors and played Bridge and Pitch.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events.  One of her favorites things in life was spending time at the cabin with family. 

She is survived by her children: Bob(Jean) Gillespie of Mount Vernon, WA, Vickie(Dale) Kerkman of David City, NE,  Jeanette(Jim) Hain of Johnson Lake, NE, Rich(Mary) Gillespie of Shelby, NE, Bill(Bev) Gillespie of Rising City, NE and Cherie(Ray) Kobza of David City, NE; 21 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchlidren. 

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Robert in 2002; siblings: Helen(Glen) Augustin and Lawrence Fozzard; great-grandchildren: Abel Mooberry and Liam Romshek.
