David Dean Specht Sr. was born on September 19, 1947 in Columbus, Nebraska to Ralph and Blanche (Kudera) Specht. David attended school in Schuyler and after he was done with school, he jumped right into working. On May 2, 1970 he married Lennis Bongers in Schuyler, Nebraska.
David worked for over 35 years at the Schuyler Pack, retiring in 2009 and while there, he received several awards for his hard work and dedication. When most think of retirement, they think of relaxing, and sleeping in-David on the other hand decided it was time to pick up the new hobby of woodworking and garage sale shopping. His favorite projects to build were birdhouses, and he enjoyed donating several of them to the Howells Catholic School fundraiser, gifting them to friends and family, and displaying them in his yard.
David looked forward to his morning coffee chats with his friends, especially his cousin Jimmy Sindelar, at the Main Express in Howells. After Lennis’ health began to decline, David took care of her until he was physically unable to continue. He was known to his family and friends as a very impatient and stubborn man, but those around him wouldn’t have it any other way. Some of David’s favorite memories were of his different jobs he held throughout his life like working security at the Howells Ballroom for events, mowing lawns, being a garbage man, and delivering the paper.
David is survived by his wife, Lennis, children: Terri Stuelpnagel of Halsey, NE; Roxannie (Edwin) Payne of Dunning, NE; and David Specht Jr. of North Platte, NE; grandchildren: Mikal Jr. (Michelle) Stuelpnagel of Broken Bow, NE, Gary (Renee) Payne of Dunning, NE, Kasondra (Josh) Harris of O’Neill, and Amanda Payne of Kearney, NE; great-grandsons: Jakob, LeeRoy, Gareth, and Kellan Payne; siblings: Arden (Susan) Specht of Schuyler, NE, Arlys (Jerry) Pacas of Schuyler, NE, Gaylen (Shari) Specht of Schuyler, NE, and Carol (Michael) Harris of Dunning, NE.
