Clanton West (better known as West), 84, of Linwood, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Omaha VA Medical Center in Omaha.
West's wishes were to be cremated and taken back to New York to be reunited with his wife Joan.
A celebration of life for West will be held on Thursday, June 5, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Linwood Hall where everyone is invited to come and share stories and play a few hands of pitch. Svoboda Moravec Johnson Mortuary is assisting Clanton's family with arrangements.
Clanton A. West was born on August 1, 1940 in Buffalo, New York to Hubert and Lorraine (Hearst) West. After graduating from high school, he served very proudly in the United States Navy. In 1978 at Niagara Falls, West married Joan McLeod, and in 1981 they moved their family to Linwood, Nebraska. Upon moving to Linwood, they operated the Sand Bar for 25 years until their retirement.
He was a man of simple pleasures. West enjoyed talking with the patrons that came into his bar, he never turned down a game of Pitch, and he loved keeping in touch with his family, especially his grandkids and great-grandkids. If you found yourself visiting West at home, you'd be sure to find your self watching a western with him as it was his favorite past time.
West is survived by his children Linda A. (Donald) Peace of Newfane, NY, Cheryl (Philip) Wahl of Amherst, NY, Gail Crespo of Cook, NE, Kathleen (Scott) Roderick, of Peoria, AZ, Shawn (Lisa) West of Vancouver, WA, Michael (Kerry) West of Phoenix AZ, sisters: Loureli Collier and Peggy (Frank) Balducci; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joan in 2012, children Deborah Hallem, Julie Myers, and John Popovich; and siblings Jesse West and Becca Morreale.
