Alfred Rathje

Alfred Rathje, 89, of David City, formerly of Rising City, passed away on July 25, 2013 at St. Joseph's Villa.
Funeral Services will be Monday, July 29, 10:00am at Faith Ev. Lutheran Church, Rising City with Pastor David Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Faith West Cemetery with Shelby Legion Post 296 providing Military Graveside Honors.
Public viewing with family greeting friends will be Sunday, from 4-6pm at Chermok Funeral Home, David City. Additional viewing will be on Monday one hr before services at the church.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS: Memorials to; Nebraska Lutheran High School at Waco. American Cancer Society or In Care of the Family.
Alfred M. Rathje was born on November 14, 1923 at Rising City, Nebraska to Hans and Minnie(Siffring)Rathje. He attended local country schools and graduated from Rising City High School. He entered the Army/AirCorp in 1943 serving as a gunner until his dishcharge in 1946.
He married Marie Nuebel on September 13, 1950 at First English Lutheran Church in Rising City. Two children were born to this union.
Alfred was a member of the Shelby American Legion Post 296 and Faith Ev. Lutheran Church. He was a past 4-H leader and he enjoyed growing a large garden, fishing, square dancing and farming.
Alfred is survived by wife, Marie, son, Keith Rathje of David City and fiance, Pam Hain of Columbus; one brother: Gerald(Roberta)Rathje of Seward, 5 grandchildren: Travis(Samantha)Rathje, Elizabeth Rathje and fiance Tom Huff; Tom Rathje, Lorinda(Joe) Mollenkamp and Megan Bejot and son-in-law, Mark(Patti)Bejot of Wakefield, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Julie Bejot, daughter-in-law: Linda Rathje, four sisters: Edna Rathje in infancy, Dolores Gates, Kathryn Vrbka and Velma Rathje.
