Adeline was born December 19, 1926 in Skull Creek township in Nebraska. She was the third of 10 children born to James J. Stara and Mary M. (Pecha) Stara. She grew up on a farm near Bruno, NE. She attended a rural district grade school and went on to graduate from East Butler High School in Brainard, NE. After high school, she earned a teaching certificate and taught for a short time. She married Henry (Hank) Jakub on May 28, 1946. They were faithful members of St. Anthony parish, where Adeline was a member of the altar society.
Hank and Adeline bought a farm near Bruno, NE and had 5 children. Adeline was a loving mother and wife. She was a great cook and baker. She loved gardening and worked hard on the farm.
Adeline loved children. Besides caring for her own children, she often cared for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, children of nieces and nephews, plus children of friends. Adeline didn’t just watch children. She played with them. She made their favorite foods. She gave them lots of love.
Adeline was a great baker. Her kolaches and coffee cake were some of the best. She always said she was good at it because it was her job to make the bread for her family when she was a young girl growing up. In 1995, Hank and Adeline had a new house built in David City, NE and moved off the farm.
Adeline lived there until 2015. At that time, she moved to Lincoln, NE where she lived the remainder of her life. She passed away on November 18, 2023 at the age of 96.
Adeline is survived by her children Marlys (Don) Goodrich of Orem, UT; Eldon (Mary) Jakub of Lincoln, NE; Donna (Rob) Lobeda of Lincoln, NE; Carol (Kevin) Head of Kearney, MO; and Linda (Charlie) Hartwell of Waverly, NE. Eleven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In addition, she is survived by brothers Albin, Donald, Kenneth, and Ernest Stara; and sisters Delores Coufal and Martha Glynn.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry (Hank); her parents, James J. and Mary M.(Pecha) Stara; brother Eugene Stara and sisters Marcella Stara and Celestine Siroky, and infant great-grandchildren Samuel and Marie Jakub.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bruno. Visitation is Tuesday from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the church with a 6:30 rosary. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Cemetery with lunch following. Chermok Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
